Saturday, Jun 07, 2008 Server's down [update]
hk.headnix.com was down for this weekend – the 3rd time this year. (Luckily, this does not affect www.headnix.com which is hosted in Media temple)
I feel really sick of maintaining my own server in data centre. Every time my server is f’d, I need to spend hours commuting from home to data centre. Then, spend even more hours fixing the server (maybe buying new hardware, maybe fixing the software, etc). Gosh… that really affects my schedule. I planned to be productive this weekend!!
Luckily, it’s Linux file system inconsistency problem. I’ve got the files recovered (thanks to this article) and the hk.headnix.com service will be restored soon.
I am not a pro in system admin. I really have no idea why that happens. Maybe someone switched off my server improperly… Anyway, this problem should never happen again. I’ll use Slicehost instead of putting up my own server again. :)
